Start with the task, not the title

If you need ideas for a Chinese name, start with a naming brief and language review. If you need to apply, the project must also address the applicant, mark, goods and procedural requirements. If a dispute exists, the scope may include analysis of rights, evidence, proceedings and potential remedies.

The word “agent” on a website should not be treated as proof of a particular qualification. Ask who will perform the work, which entity you are engaging and which services are actually included.

What an agency filing scope can include

A filing engagement may include specification advice, Chinese-language preparation, submission and reporting of official notices. Search work and contentious responses should be described separately enough that you know what has been checked and what remains outside the scope.

Ask for the exact marks and classes covered by a quotation. A price “per class” does not say whether it includes several different marks, extra goods, oppositions or an appeal from refusal.

When the matter needs a different review

A known conflicting registration, an allegation of infringement, a proposed acquisition of rights or an enforcement project changes the brief. Describe the issue before choosing a filing package. The appropriate professional and procedure depend on the facts and the work required.

Do not send only the name of the other brand. Provide documents, relevant registration numbers and a chronology, using a secure document channel when sensitive information is involved.

Questions to ask before instructing anyone

  • Which entity will be responsible for the work and billing?
  • What records let me verify its agency status or professional qualifications?
  • Is the advice linguistic, procedural, a register search or dispute analysis?
  • Who reports official correspondence, in which language and through which channel?
  • What needs a separate quotation if the application encounters a problem?

Our about page identifies the service entity and links to verification information. Describe the matter so the next step can be scoped appropriately.
